Meet SAM DARLING

Hi! I’ve had a passion for social justice and human rights from a young age that started with my grandmother. She immigrated from Peru and worked hard to gain her education. She spent her life helping others and standing for what she believed was right. She instilled in me a desire to do the same.

I’ve spent most of my life addressing generational trauma, defying discriminatory practices I encounter, and getting involved in local coalitions, protests, and volunteer efforts. I’ve led a student walkout to protest racist curriculum in a college course (With success! They changed the curriculum!) and advocated for change.

I recently obtained my Masters in Human Rights Practice and I’ve been searching for an opportunity to work in the non-profit sector. I’ve admittedly struggled to find a job in my field, like many others, and have been working a couple jobs to support myself while I look. I understand it is a tough market and I’m hoping to find a stable forever job that I can settle into. I’ve made this website to help you get to know me a little better and would love to talk further!

  • I have a bachelor’s in health promotion, I’m close to a second bachelor’s in psychology, and I have a master’s in human rights practice (at some point I need to just stop going to school)

  • My previous jobs have given me experience in executive assistance, department and office management, caseload management, HR support such as interviewing and hiring, record management, event planning, community outreach and relationship building, bookkeeping, budgeting, and handling sensitive information and money with discretion and safety.

  • I am community and relationship centered

  • I am a jack of all trades. Put anything in front of me and I’ll figure out how to do it and do it well.

  • My special flavor of neurodivergent makes me VERY good at business operations. I do very well in roles where my job is to keep organizations running smoothly. I can keep track of all the moving parts.

  • My heart is rooted in community focused work. I’ve given up a lot to pursue a career in human rights and I’m in it for the long haul.

  • I do things like make websites to get hired

  • Most of my past experience is in jobs relating to finance and law and I’ve only worked at two non-profits

  • I eat WAY too many chocolate covered pretzels

Why Are These Things Actually a Good Thing?

  • I’ve helped with websites and marketing for several of my past roles and can offer a lot of support and ideas!

  • My past experience in finance, law, operations, and executive assistance gave me the opportunity to work with a wide range of diverse people on topics that were very sensitive and often emotional. I helped individuals that were rebuilding their lives after justice involvement, youth that were learning the basics of finances, entrepreneurs launching their first business, accident victims, elderly folks worried about retirement, spouses that had recently lost their partner, children mourning their parent’s passing, parents trying to buy their first house, and more. I encountered people from many backgrounds and many adverse situations. I learned to show compassion, be respectful, and meet people where they were at. I loved being someone that made their journey a little bit brighter.
